GF Writing Prompt #48: Urfaust – Apparitions

January 7, 2017 by Bryan Cheyne Leave a Comment

Hey listeners, readers, and writers! Garage Fiction Member Anthony has submitted our next weekly prompt. This is prompt 48 for us (but who’s counting?), and our group submissions are due Friday, January 13th (insert appropriate spooky joke here).

Anthony gives us: Urfaust – Apparitions

He adds: “Urfaust is one of my favorite bands and their music has been a great source of inspiration over the years. This song is quite different from their usual output, but it’s also among the most “moving”, in my opinion. It’ll be interesting to see what it inspires for others. Enjoy!”

Until next time, good luck with your words. We’ll see you in the garage.

GF Writing Prompt #47: Pruning the End of the World

December 31, 2016 by Bryan Cheyne Leave a Comment

Hey listeners, readers, and writers! Happy New Year! We’re revving our creative engines for 2017 over here, and GF Member Alexandra has kindly provided us with our first prompt of the new year. This is prompt #47 (can you believe it?!), and the image seems a fitting end to 2016.

She has this to say about it: ‘This composition whispers an Ouroboros’s story against my brain. I’ve looked at it almost everyday for a couple months now, but I still cannot make out it’s voice. I just keep wondering – what garden are these hands tending?’

(The Ouroboros is a serpent that devours its own tail. It has been used by many peoples, as far back as 1600 BCE, to symbolize concepts such as creation from destruction, life out of death, eternity, renewal and even the soul of the world.)

She hasn’t been able to determine the artist, so if you happen to know, please share.

Have a safe and Happy New Year celebration wherever you are!

~GF Team

UPDATE: Senna has shown us why she’s the bomb (see what I did there?). Thanks to her, we now know the original image of the mushroom cloud is from a 1951 nuclear test at the Nevada Proving Grounds. It’s been edited/collaged by an artist named Philipp Igumnov who goes by woodcum.

GF Holiday Writing Prompt: Vitas – 7th Element

December 24, 2016 by Bryan Cheyne Leave a Comment

Hey listeners, readers, and writers! It’s time for the next Garage Fiction weekly prompt.

We’re on a bit of a Holiday break so this prompt isn’t included in our weekly count, but GF Member Alexandra thought it would be a good time to remind everyone not to take themselves too seriously. Dance like nobody is watching, write like nobody is reading. Enjoy, and may your Holidays be safe and full of love!

GF Writing Prompt #46: Fish-guy-thing!

December 17, 2016 by Bryan Cheyne Leave a Comment

Hey listeners, readers, and writers! It’s time for the next Garage Fiction weekly prompt. Prompt 46 is brought to us by GF’s covertest member, Senna.

(Stop looking at it weird, ‘covertest’ could be a word…)

Senna writes: “I don’t know the corresponding tale since it’s all in Russian, but it’s from a book called Myths and Legends of the Ancient Slavs by Natalia Bukanova.”

GF Writing Prompt #45 – Revenge!

December 13, 2016 by Bryan Cheyne Leave a Comment

Hey listeners, readers, and writers! It’s time for the next Garage Fiction weekly prompt. Prompt 45 was submitted by Olivia.

In her words…

Revenge. One of my all-time favourite books is The Count of Monte Cristo and I believe the revenge in that novel is executed perfectly. I’d love to see stories that incorporate that theme, whether it be a petty revenge, an actually well plotted revenge, or just a thought hovering in the background. A great theme to explore character motivation and conflict.

We’re a little late posting this one to the site but we’ve been mulling it over and generating story ideas for a few days now. Who doesn’t love a good revenge story?
