GFP Writing Prompt #44 – Ingenue

December 3, 2016 by Bryan Cheyne Leave a Comment

Hey listeners, readers, and writers! It’s time for the next Garage Fiction weekly prompt. Prompt 44 was submitted by Nicholas Brack.

Nicholas writes:

‘Here’s one I’ve been meditating on. “Ingenue” by Atoms for Peace, which is the second band formed by Thom Yorke, the frontman of Radiohead.’

And here are the lyrics…

Ingenue by Atoms for Peace

You know like the back of your hand
Who let ’em in?
You got me into this mess
You get me out
You know like the back of your hand
Your bell jar
Your collection
Ingenue
You got me into this mess
Fools rushing in, yeah
And they know it

The seeds of the dandelion you blow away
In good time, I hope I pray
If I’m not there now, physically
I’m always before you, come what may
And you know it
Fools rushing in, yeah
Well you know it

Who let them in?
Yeah well you know it
Gone with a touch of your
Gone with a touch of your hand

Move through the moment
Though it betrays
transformations
Jackals and flames
If I knew now what I knew then
Just give me more time I hope and pray
I mistake all you say
The seeds of the dandelion you blow away

GFP Writing Prompt #43 – The Bear and the Hare Composite Video

November 26, 2016 by Bryan Cheyne Leave a Comment

Hey listeners, readers, and writers! It’s time for the next Garage Fiction weekly prompt. Prompt 43 was submitted by Jinn Zhong.

The video is a composite of two others: the advert ‘The Bear & the Hare’, and the ‘Making of’ video for the same advert.

“The Bear & The Hare” was directed by Yves Geleyn & Elliot Dear as a Christmas advertisement for John Lewis, a UK Department store famous for their Christmas ad campaigns.

The video is set to the Lily Allen cover of the Keane song “Somewhere Only We Know’.

Jinn adds: Every year there’s at least one song I listen to obsessively and get teary-eyed over. This one got into my bones after my wife showed it to our daughters last year and they kept singing it while playing. Plus, all the department stores are marketing Christmas already, so I figured I’d join in.
